Mulryjewels makes the FRONT PAGE
This morning and 5 AM my crystal snowflake necklace was featured in a treasury that made the Front Page of Etsy.com ! This is monumental and a brand new achievement for me and for mulryjewels. See a copy of the front page HERE at the craftcult site.
The results of this feature have been CRAZY so far! I have had 16 new people add me to their favorite sellers and a Whopping 55 hearts on my items, about half being just for this one piece. No sales yet today but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
What a great way to wake up! I had no idea of this feature but some really nice etsyians sent me some congratulatory emails. Thanks to those etsians! This is what happens when you get featured at 5 am. I can only imagine what happens if you get featured at 5 pm! The outpour of support has been amazing and I would like to thank you all for your support and well wishes. They were much needed and are much appreciated. YAY, onward!

thanksgiving!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Outside of jewelry making I have been known to make the occasional festive cake. Here is the cake I made for this Thanksgiving:
It is made of layers of chocolate and yellow cake sculpted into the body and Rice Crispy Treats for the wings and legs. Cake is crumbcoated and then covered in colored fondant. Then we had fun stipple painting the body for the "roasted look." We finised by "stuffing" it with some Banana bread. What a reception this cake got once we got to our party!
Happy Thanksgiving to all and may the shopping season be fruitful!

feeling the strain
Hello,
I try to keep my posts really upbeat and fun but I have to say that this month it is really starting to hit home, exactly how much I am putting into this business and how little I am selling. Murlyjewels is definitely feeling the burn. Sales have been so slow and I keep giving out more pieces for consignment. Most of the stores that feature my jewelry are telling me it's just that no jewelry is moving and it is not specific to my line. I believe that, since I know that my line is Fabulous!
I really have nothing else interesting to say at this point. I am in talks with a few shops who "really are planning to bring me on but can not commit at this time." I totally understand that times are hard for them too, but unfortunately this puts me at sort of a stand-still. On the eve of the official "shopping season," I wish everyone happy shopping and selling. I hope that some luck will rub off on all of us. Anyone else out there experiencing this? Please feel free to comment. I would love to hear some stories.
Hopefully these will bring some luck:

Saturn Rivoli!
Here it is!
This is the Saturn Rivoli necklace with a beaded bezel setting. 65$ includes a sterling silver chain. While I am LOVING this stone I know that it is not the best value so I will only order it on special request.
I hope everyone is staying warm and dry today. I will be out in the city in a few short hours so I will make sure to bring a 'brella. Very excited about my night out with friend Lauren :) I will be wearing my fushia heart-on-a-string lariat to go with my fushia top.
Also in talks to be featured in a store in Arizona! More on that if it pulls through. Have a great day, all!

New Rivoli Discovery
I recently, due to the efforts of a customer, Lynn, discovered the After Market Rivoli Coating called Saturn! It is enchanting with silver tones and a "oil spill" of a whole spectrum right in the middle. I can not paste it here so here is the link.
I tried to get these wholesale but the guy was a bit unreasonable in my opinion, maybe because they want to keep them very rare. They are only available on ebay and only on auction so far.
I ordered 2 of them and one is going to Lynn. If anyone else wants in, let me know, but I must tell you that this is the most I have ever spent on a rivoli so expect the price to be 10$ higher than usual. Having said that. This should be STUNNING. I will take pics when they come it!

Long Time No See
Hello Gorgeous! So, yeah, I'm sorry that i have not updated this blog in a long time :( The truth is I have not really been able to find anything to say. Here is what's up in a nutshell:
Craft fair in mid October. Fairly successful but felt like mid DECEMBER. All of the Etsy Artists were amazing! It was great to meet everyone who i have been email and featuring in my treasuries. There is so much talent on the (newnew)team! My display table is pictured above.
Some Custom orders: A nice gift of a crystal ball and 2 birthstones. Also a custom bracelet
Upcoming giveaway on Tiger Lily's Blog along with a review. More to come on that.
Sold some items at Frock in Long Beach, Here is my display there:
Recently got back from Florida which was amazing/bizzare/frustrating/very important. I took a trip down to Worth Avenue and saw some very ritzy stores including Cartier, Michael Kors, and, of course, Tiffany's. It's basically a tropical madison avenue. Anyway, I got to talking to one of the Ladies who works at a boutique right on the strip and she really liked my stuff and asked me to send line sheets. I may not be as upscale as they would like, but I am going to try anyway! Lets cross out fingers.
I've made lots of boutique contacts and have not been able to follow up on any of them! It is really getting to be crunch time for the upcoming holiday season. I really need to get crackin! Wish me luck!!
I promise never to leave you for this long again ;)

Mulryjewels is ONE WORD :)
Just clarifying for people who have been asking. Despite various online publications, Mulryjewels is just one word and not two. Any printing of "Mulry Jewels" is a mistake, albeit a well meaning one :) Thanks for the shout outs for Murlyjewels OR "mulry jewels." I know who you mean :D
Thanks and BE a great day!

Wedding Feature!
Last June Michelle Plutter became Michelle Bottini, but now without the help of Mulryjewels! Take a look at how beautiful she looks!
She is wearing (a fabulous gown plus) simple swarovski Pearl Drop Earrings and the Matching Pearl Drop Necklace. Simple and elegant. That is the style of Mulryjewels Bridal.
For the bridesmaids we went with elegant and fun. Check out these colors!
The girls are wearing the Fireball Necklace and some simple drop earrings in gold filled chain and findings.
Michelle would have made a beautiful bride without the help of mulryjewels, but I am glad that we were able to work together. A little custom design work can really make an event special. All of the pieces were custom made to the specifications of the wedding. The jewelry really complemented the dresses and made the whole look "pop."

Faith
It has come to my attention that there is a rise in the trend of "Faith jewelry." I've seen an influx of crosses, ohms, and hamsas or hands of G-d, often using the rosary style beads. I have also seen people wearing these symbols of faith across religious lines. I think this is a wonderful thing. In these tough times it is important that we have something to turn to. Why not incorporate these things into our wardrobe as a constant reminder that we have faith AND that we look FABULOUS?
Here is one of my favorite examples from One Heart Jewelry. This can be found at www.oneheartjewelry.etsy.com
It is called the "Interfaith unity" necklace
Not only is this an expression of the wearers faith, but of all faiths. Therefore it is faith AND tolerance. That's a lot to say around your neck! Debi from One Heart Jewelry says:
"I support all efforts to share spirituality and faith in a tolerant way...no matter what religion!"
I am very inspired by this trend and with the holidays coming up it is more prudent than ever. Keep an eye out for some faith based pieces from mulryjewels in the future. As always, you can check me out at www.mulryjewels.etsy.com . Thanks, and Keep the faith!

Inspiration
What inspires us to create? When I make jewelry I am usually inspired by the actual materials that are available to me. I am also inspired but the shapes that can be made by weaving beads. Inspiration is everywhere if we know where and how to look.
As many of you know, I am a singer. In singing, music is a constant source of inspiration to me. I love singing different styles of music and learning about its corresponding culture. I have to admit though, in jewelry making I have not used music as an inspiration. Except maybe if I need a piece to wear for a concert or recital and I make a piece that goes with the theme and what I am wearing. Other than that though, nada.
This week I am inspired by a designer named Julie from SeaJewels2005. Julie is also a musician, but a folk guitarist. Julie told me that she uses songs and song titles as inspirations for her pieces. I'll show you what I mean:
This one is called "chain chain chain." I LOVE it.
Then there's the "Red Hot Chillies" chunky necklace:
Finally, "All that glitters is Goldstone"
This is such a creative way to design! Kudos to Seajewels2005. You can check her out at www.seajewels2005.etsy.com . Also read her blog at http://thecraftersguildplace.blogspot.com/ .
What about you? What inspires you to create? What is it that you create? Maybe I will feature you! Leave some comment love on it. Thanks!

Mulryjewels product review!!!
....um, I am speechless. This is the most awesome thing that I have ever seen. My first "published" product review and they are as nice as can be. CHECK THIS OUT!
http://www.weezies.com/2009/09/18/1038/
My favorite are these 2 quotes:
"A place of beauty and elegance with a flair for the whimsical – this is the world Stephanie Horowitz-Mulry envelops her designs in and it’s called Mulryjewels."
and
"The craftsmanship is first-rate and the prices, totally affordable. During these times, we all want to get the most bang for our buck and you’ll definitely get that with these pieces."
This totally made my day! It is a great way to start the new year, and by the way...

NEW PRODUCT!!
I am SO happy to unveil the Rivoli Necklace and Ring with Beaded Settings.
These babies take about an hour to make! It can take more if you break a string trying to pull the knot through the small opening of a 3mm bicone bead. You may have to start all over if that happens. Anyway, take a look!
A little tedious but well worth it. These are becoming my most requested item. Also great as a holidy gift. They will soon be posted at www.mulryjewels.etsy.com for 40-65$ depending on the style/color. Look for sales on these in the future!

The latest
Hello Blog readers,
First off, let me say that I am honored that you are following me and keeping tabs on the progress of Mulryjewels. Here is the latest:
I have been visiting many local boutiques trying to get the Mulryjewels name out there. I have had a couple more retail stores either order or show interest in the Mulryjewels line. Hopefully they (the jewels) will take off this season :) It is really labor intensive to get your line out there. It is like trying to get a record deal...ya know, without the sexual favors. Just kidding, P. Diddy. But, as they say, with great work comes great rewards.
Here is a mantra for all of you who take part in them:
"The world is conspiring in my favor"
Stay tuned for more good news including retail appearances, craft fair appearances, and online product reviews. Also, more blog giveaways for YOU.
Here is a picture of sunset in Alaska during the Light Season. Hope you are inspired.

Attention Jewely Makers
...and everyone else. I was given this link to an LA times article and was made extremely sad. Please be careful where you buy your supplies. I urge you to read this and think about where your pretty, shiny beads come from and what is the REAL cost.

I would love to hear some opinions about this, especially the reaction from Fire Mountain Gems. I have been getting supplies from them up to this point.... now I am not sure. I think that the response was complacent at best. Thanks and please read this.

Mulryjewels featured at Summer Recital!
This past May I had the pleasure of being a part of the Westchester Summer Vocal Institute. The program, which involved an intense schedule of coachings, voice lessons, staging, Alexander technique, masterclasses, and audition classes all with amazing staff, closed in a gala recital of arias. It was a great night for opera AND for mulryjewels!
Featured above is Soprano Christina Kompar playing a DIVA in an aria from Mozart's The Impresario. Christina is wearing the "Crystal Ball and Chain" earrings. Below is Soprano Nina Camp singing the "Doll Song" from Offenbach's Tales of Hoffman. Nina is wearing the Crystal Ball Necklace in Crystal AB as well as the "Birthday Cake" pearl cluster ring.
Then there's yours truly (Stephanie Horowitz-Mulry), singing Mimi's first aria from La Boheme. I am wearing the Puffed Heart in Purple Velvet as well as a Cluster ring.
Performance pictures courtesy of the Shorestein family.
I was so proud of everyone and I have made a whole bunch of new friends! THANKS to all!!
